Why It Matters
Endometriosis isn’t just a health issue—it’s a workplace, economic, and equity issue.
1 in 7 Australians live with endometriosis or chronic pelvic pain.
It takes on average 6 - 8 years to be diagnosed.
Over 50% of people living with endo say it negatively affects their work, career trajectory, or ability to remain in the workforce.
The condition costs the Australian economy over $9.7 billion each year more than 2/3 of that due to lost productivity.
In 2023, the World Health Organisation listed endometriosis among the top 9 diseases globally that threaten women’s economic stability. The impacts are most profound for people already facing inequities young people, women in casual work, people in regional and remote areas, and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
