Hi, I’m Lyndell
Hi, I’m Lyndell.
Hi, my name is Lyndell. For 34 years I suffered in silence, medically gaslighted by doctors informing me the pelvis, back, hips and thigh pain was normal. At 20 I experienced my first migraine. To be honest I have never been so scared, only to be told once again by my doctor - it’s just part of being a woman. Have a child, it will fix your issues. Needless to say having a child further exacerbated my symptoms, not improve them.
By 30 I had what is called an ovarian cystectomy to remove a teratoma that was ten times bigger than my ovary at the time. It wasn’t until I was 48 that I finally received my adenomyosis diagnosis, requiring an immediate hysterectomy. Unfortunately what the medical profession doesn’t tell you is this surgery within twelve months forces you into early menopause.
I honestly believed them when they stated ‘this is the cure’. However, the toll of over 34 years of pain on the body clearly has not been researched, resulting for me personally suffering constantly as my body deals with menopause.
During these tumultuous years I later studied counselling receiving my degree just prior to my diagnosis.
My hope is to utilise my training with my lived experience to engage with and empower women of all ages who like myself and so many others deal with these health issues through support, education, communication, discussions and understanding.
