Hi, I’m Farhat
Hello/Salam, I’m Farhat!
I have been living with endometriosis since I was 16 years old. I struggled with chronic pain on my own and without the right treatment for 7 years until finally receiving my diagnosis at 23. Having gone through this experience, I am very familiar with how isolating it can be to navigate this process. This is why I am passionate about being a part of your support team or helping you build that team.
Being a Muslim woman and from a culturally diverse background, I also have a deep appreciation for how certain stigmas can further impact this experience and treatment journey. This is something which I am more than happy to discuss in order to help normalise the experience. I hope that if you are familiar with such challenges, my perspective might help to validate and empower you.
Before my diagnosis, when I wasn’t chasing GPs and specialists or spending time in emergency, I was completing my Bachelor of Laws and Science (Psychology). I now work full time in the Australian Public Service and am completing my Graduate Diploma so I can begin practicing law. Having struggled through my studies without treatment, and now working and studying with treatment, I can tell you the difference is absolutely game changing.
I cannot overstate the positive impact that the right treatment and care team had for my capacity and quality of life. My hope with this Mentor Program is to empower you with the tools and confidence to be involved in your care and manage your pain, so you can build the life that you want.
I recognise how overwhelming managing pain can be, especially by yourself. I hope to be a friend, to meet you where you are, and help empower you to tackle your goals.
