QENDO Welcomes Landmark Investment in Endometriosis Research: Finally, a National Focus on Understanding Endometriosis Lesions

QENDO, Australia’s leading charity supporting people with endometriosis, today welcomed the announcement of a new national research initiative that will, for the first time, comprehensively investigate the biology of endometriosis lesions — a fundamental piece of the puzzle long called for by consumers, clinicians, and researchers alike.

The announcement, taking place tomorrow at UNSW Sydney with Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, represents a historic step forward in the fight against endometriosis. The initiative will focus on understanding when, where, and why lesions form in the body, and how they behave — critical knowledge needed to drive development of diagnostics, treatment options, and ultimately, a cure.

“For years, QENDO has consistently advocated for this very research,” said Jess Taylor, CEO of QENDO. “Whenever I’m asked what’s needed in research, I say the same thing: first, we need to understand what endometriosis lesions actually do in the body. Without that, everything else is just guesswork.”

QENDO is proud to have directly contributed to the foundational research that led to this moment. The organisation has invested in consumer-led research, supported early-career scientists, and championed national conversations to shift funding toward the biological mechanisms of disease.

“This is what our community has been calling for,” said Taylor. “This is what consumers have been shouting from the rooftops: understand the disease, so we can stop it at its root. This announcement proves that lived experience voices are being heard — and it gives us hope.”

The burden of endometriosis on Australia is staggering — costing up to $9.7 billion annually. Despite its prevalence, it has long been underfunded and under-recognised. This new research commitment acknowledges the scale of the problem and lays the groundwork for real, science-led solutions.

QENDO celebrates this announcement alongside the broader endometriosis and pelvic pain community and looks forward to continuing its role as a trusted national leader in consumer advocacy, research translation, and support services.
